My works are fantasy in pastel and mixed media.
I began my journey with Abstract Expressionism. But as the Post-Modern movements eventually, pushed 20th century art aside, I enjoyed their often ironic messaging. There were other influences.
The dichotomous imagery from the Hubble telescope and the elegant beauty of microscopic bio-forms merged in my thinking. The outsider Dreaming paintings of Australian aborigines whose paintings sought divine interpretation, inflected my ideas. And the enigmatic paintings of Thomas Nozkowski confirmed the directions I was to take — the mystery lying beneath the surface of the paintings.
My paintings are landscapes as seen through a macro/micro lens window, with all the unique debris accrued in the space between the two lenses. They float or are submerged in a soupy, gaseous matrix where there is no up or down. We can’t differentiate between stars or microbes. And where does humankind go from here?
The paintings are numbered and untitled enabling the viewer freedom of thought without encumbering bias. No didactic politics or social argument.
Though relatively small (22†x 30â€), the current work speaks to a growing generation conflicted with aspiration and challenge.
